Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 as the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts is part of the Robertses' fourth generation that live in the Atlanta region beginning by her grandfather John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. At an early age, her father became interested in theater. As being a student at Emory University, he performed in a variety of productions in Atlanta. He joined the military in 1953. While stationed in Biloxi Mississippi, was a part of a military production that included Betty Lou Bredemus who was also in the air force. In 1955, they got married and in 1956 their son Eric Anthony was born. Walter and wife resigned from their Air Force service in the year 1957 at which time they were enrolled Walter at Tulane University. Walter started his work at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter along with Betty Lou produced a Saturday morning local television show that was aimed at children, called Bum Bum and His Buddies in 1964, and they made a living from it. The following year they started the Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for a period of six years. They welcomed in 1965 two more children into their lives: Lelisa Billingsley as well as Julia Billingsley.
